MicroWave Photonics for Communications and Sensing Applications in Space aims to provide cutting-edge training to young researchers in the emerging field of integrated photonics, fostering the application of 6 Work Packages contributing for the space industry.
The objective of the 3 Training School consist in providing all DCs involved a structured, interdisciplinary, and inter-sectoral training programme, supporting and
Supplementing activities in the research projects. The main objectives are to solve cross-disciplinary problems, and provide networkwide, local, and external training to the DCs, including an array of secondments to partners in academia and industrial sectors, workshops, dissemination, and outreach activities.
Our first training School was host by the University of Vigo in Spain.
The DC’s where welcomed on a Sunday evening at the hotel Maroa to meet in person for the first time. A nice dinner helped them to introduce themselves.
Their work started on January 22nd with an intense 5 days introduction in Photonics with a hands on training touching base on waveguide simulation, device simulation, circuit simulation, free space optics, layouts & PDKs.
The sessions and the interactions between DC’s and the consortium partners gave participants a clear idea on the unique opportunity of combining both the Academic approach within top notch Industry leaders understanding in Photonics.
During the weekend, in order to foster their personal relations, DC’s were invited to visit Saint James’ Way iconic cities such as Tuy in Spain and Valença do Minho in Portugal. That visit payed out with a much more enthusiastic Training program in Transferable Skills from January 29th to 31st. Design Thinking, Responsible Innovation, Leadership or Entrepreneurship gave the DC’s clear ideas in how to growth TRL Research and the importance of protecting their Technology Transfer. All those concepts shared by a variety of experts’ thorough workshops and masterclasses including use case experiences were communicated by highly qualified Telecom and Social Science professionals.
“Now I do understand how this program works and the importance of meeting my peers”, Rodrigo said, after being elected as DC representative of the Supervisory Board.
